Dr Michael Hoelzl, Senior Lecturer in Political Philosophy and Religion at the University of Manchester will talk to us about the "New Visibility of Religion" theory. It highlights religion's persistent influence despite secularization attempts and warns about its potential political and anti-liberal tendencies. This theory impacts various fields studying contemporary religiosity. Assessing the new visibility of religion is challenging due to difficulties defining religion and the ever-changing social interactions shaping religious phenomena. To effectively analyze new religious trends, we need new approaches beyond traditional secularization and fundamentalism theories.
We meet upstairs at The Armoury, 31 Shaw Heath, SK3 8BD. There is a council car park across the road which is free at the time that we meet.
